Do the Pakistani Christians in Thailand deserve to be abandoned and forgotten?

Jesus Christ for Muslims

2,500 Pakistani Christians´ fate is hanging in an endless limbo in Thailand who fled their homeland facing persecution and found shelter in the skyscraper city of Bangkok. They file their protection applications with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Thailand with the hopes that they will be heard and provided a safe haven. But a huge institution such as UNHCR with immense resources completely failed their hopes and let them down.

According to the “Open Doors” organization Pakistan is the 5th most dangerous place on the earth for living as Christian. Christians in Pakistan are discriminated on daily basis. Muslims often falsely accuse Christians of committing blasphemy for settling personal vendetta, property issues or due to the lust for Christian women. Blasphemy law has become an easy tool for Muslims to persecute the Christians. Burning Christian colonies, lynching Christians through mob justice and attacking Churches have become the favorite hobby of radical Muslims, yet the UNHCR refuses majority of Christians´ protection applications saying they won’t be harmed in Pakistan.

Even if some Christians are granted refugee status by UNHCR they are hardly resettled to safe third nations. Tens of Christian families who are recognized refugees are still waiting for a call from UNHCR with good news of resettlement but their wait never ends. And they are forced to live in a country which considers them no more than illegal immigrants. They constantly live under the fear of being caught by the Thai police and immigration, and taken to the infamous immigration detention center which is over populated and unhygienic.

The Pakistani Christian community in Bangkok is not allowed to work legally, they receive no financial support from the UNHCR which receives funding on the name of protecting and serving refugees, and which proclaims to be the mother organization for refugees. Their children cannot go to school, and 16 Pakistani Christians have lost their lives in Bangkok in last 4 years due to the lack of medical assistance.

Above all constant immigration raids change their lives upside down. Just in the month of October 2018 over 150 Christians have been arrested and thrown into the detention center. Those who were granted temporary bails are also treated like criminals and thrown back behind the bars with the sword of deportation hanging on their heads.

A rich Christian country´s leader is busy in airlifting Syrians, another worldwide known Christian personality is busy in appeasing Muslims by washing their feet, someone is dedicating day and night to protect homosexual´s rights, and someone is fighting hard to protect Rohingyas but no leader sees the injustice these Christians in Thailand are facing because helping them won´t bring any political or financial benefit.

It is indeed a complete waste of time and sources to help this little group of people which does not make any headline in newspapers! They deserve to be abandoned and forgotten because they decided not to compromise with their faith, and adore Christ at any price! Those Christian leaders who ignore today the plea of these vulnerable Christians must remember what Jesus said in the following verses;

Luke 6:46 – Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and not do what I tell you?

Matthew 25:42-43 – For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
